He is also a teacher at the Institute where he teaches Hadith (Sahih Al Bukhari), Aqaa'id, Tafseer of the Quran and Fiqh. Besides these, he is the Chief Shariah Consultant for the Muslim Credit Union Cooperative Society (an Islamic Financial Institution). He is a renowned Islamic scholar who is well known and highly respected through the length and breadth of Trinidad and the West Indies.

With respect to his studies, he (first of all) started his basic Islamic studies in Quranic recitation, tajweed and fiqh in Trinidad, under the tutorship of the leading scholars of Trinidad. He then left for India in 1983 and took enrollment in the Alim course in one of the most famous and renowned Islamic Institutes of India known as 'Jamia Islamia' situated in Dabhel, Gujarat. There, he studied the Urdu, Persian and Arabic languages, along with studies in the recitation of the Holy Quran, Islamic beliefs, Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.s), Tajweed and Islamic Jurisprudence.

The purpose of studying the Urdu language was that most of the teachers of the Islamic sciences in the Indo-Pak continent taught and explained in Urdu, the books of Hadith, Tafseer, Fiqh and all other subjects which were all in the Arabic language. Although some of them taught in the Arabic, many taught in the Urdu language, seeing that it was their own language. Some of the books pertaining to the rules of Arabic grammar were written in Urdu and also in the Persian language, hence, it was important for students to get a grasp and understanding of these languages. Having done these, studies began in the field of Arabic language at the same Institute in India.

After a period of three years, Mufti Waseem left for Karachi, Pakistan to continue his studies. This was due to problems which came about in obtaining a student's visa for studies in India. In Karachi, he was admitted in the world's famous and renowned Institute of Pakistan known as Jamiatul Uloom Al Islamia, Newtown, Karachi, which was founded by the great Muhaddith, Allama Yusuf Al Binnori. These were achieved after successful completion of the examinations (over a period of eight years), conducted by Wifaqul Madaris Al Arabiyah (Board of Religious Educational Institutes of Pakistan, recognized by the Government of Pakistan through University Grants Commission, Ministry Of Education. The Certificates and Degrees were all given and endorsed by Wifaqul Madaris, Pakistan, and accepted as being equivalent to the levels stated, by all Islamic Universities in Pakistan and outside of Pakistan).
